Aliou Dia
Regional Team Leader
United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Ethiopia

Aliou DIA is the UNDP Africa team Leader on Climate Change, Energy and Disaster Risk Reduction at the Regional Hub based in Addis Ababa.

He has 15 years’ experience of international development, climate change and natural resource management, disaster risk reduction, energy access working in interdisciplinary environments.

He provides technical advice to UNDP Country Offices around Africa and beyond; represents his Organization at multi-stakeholder fora including public-private dialogues, government and civil society dialogues, South-South and Triangular cooperation initiatives, and engages in UN inter-agency coordination in specific thematic areas.

Aliou currently leads UNDP’s work on resilience building and disaster risk reduction in Africa working with all relevant actors and stakeholders at regional and National Level. Over 4 years he has led UNDP’s resilience building projects in the Horn of Africa and Sahel region.

He is also in charge of UNDP’s programme on Climate Change in Africa mainly focusing on adaptation, finance, loss and damage, etc. Over the last 3 years he has been a pioneer on setting up the Africa Adaptation Initiative (AAI) and others.

On top of this large portfolio, Aliou is also in charge UNDP’s Energy programme for Africa and is providing tremendous support to African countries on policy and programme development on Sustainable Energy.
